Lake Cachuma!

Camped on a stunning lake, the photos can speak for themselves. The weather has just changed and it now feels like we are actually on holiday and not a cycling boot camp. We can slow the pace down as we roll into Santa Barbara tomorrow!

We are now transients!

Solvang- Little Denmark!

A key factor in my decison to leave the coast was to visit the small town of Solvang. A Danish settlement which has maintained all of its traditions and almost manufactured a mini Copenhagen in California. Full of overly Danish bakeries, restaurants and hotels with the most Danish of surnames! Very interesting and a nice change from USA, America, Wal Mart and McDeath!

Santa Ynez Valley!

I was so happy to have chosen an alternate route which deviated from the coastal route 1 and took us East on the 246 to Santa Ynez Valley. This was by far the most pleasant and spectacular days riding so far. We rode 77.91 miles along rolling hills through vineyards and mountains! I hope the photos do it justice!

Guadalupe - little mexico!

The movies that must have played here, the kisses that took place in the back seats of beat up old cars, the women who slapped the faces of over zealous dates with wandering hands, the boys who sneaked in to see Nightmare on Elm Street, the guys who got intimate with themselves while watching others making out while watching the movies, the proposals, the will you marry me's?, the will you go to the prom with me?, the fights in the car parking lot over the girl he wanted to take to the prom! The dad of the daughter he took to the prom catching his little daughter with the college jocks pants down! Just a few of the things that my childish mind imagined as I cruised pass this old drive in movie theatre!

This was literally like cycling through Mexico. It was a shady looking town with homies and essays crusing by in low rider impala's. Crazy gang banger shit. We were happy to get the photos, have a quick lunch and breeze out of there! This guy had the full nacho libre kit, the snakeskin boots, the signature moustache and that crazy look in his eye that only a man carrying a gun would have. "come on Ted arriba arriba underlay underlay, vamonos!"

One legged bandit!

I thought i'd ride one legged for small intervals to give my other leg a rest. After about 1 mile I soon realised that I was clearly burning way more energy than with two. Its good to know that if I broke my leg or ankle I could still finish this trip!

Look daddy no hands!
